Since 2009, Providence Water has leased the rights to tap maple trees at specified locations to a local commercial maple sugaring venture.  The most visible site is located just west of the Village of North Scituate on both sides of Danielson Pike.  Blue plastic tubing can be seen running from tree to tree, which connects the taps in hundreds of maple trees to a vacuum pump and collection tank.  This "technology" has replaced the traditional buckets or pails once seen hanging from each tree.  By engaging in this lease arrangement, Providence Water is helping to keep alive a New England tradition while supporting a local small business entrepreneur.
