Providence Water measures consumption in hundred cubic feet (HCF). The water consumption unit HCF is equal to approximately 748 gallons.  Below are the current rates-volume charges.

Residential rate: $3.830 per HCF
Commercial rate: $4.014 per HCF
Industrial rate: $3.650 per HCF

Examples:

  1. If a residential customer uses 25 HCF in a billing month, the water charge will be $95.75 (25 X 3.830).
  2. If a commercial customer uses 1100 HCF in a billing month, the water charge will be $4,415.40 (1100 X 4.014)

A typical residential yearly water bill, based on 100 HCF per year, will total $529.04.

WATER USAGE: 100 HCF @ $3.830 per HCF = $383.00 (100 x 3.830)

STATE SURCHARGES: 100 HCF @ $0.21842 per HCF = $21.84 (100 x 0.21842)

MONTHLY SERVICE CHARGE: 5/8" METER @ $10.35 per month x 12 = $124.20 (12 X $10.35)

FIRE PROTECTION SERVICE CHARGE (applies only to City of Providence residents): 5/8" meter @ $1.90 per month x 12 = $22.80 (12 x $1.90)

East Smithfield Water District Debt Service Charge (Per HCF):  $0.35

Town of Johnston Water District Annexation Fee (Per HCF) $0.34
