Public Outreach
Although the lands surrounding the Scituate Reservoir are closed to unauthorized access, Providence Water supports public education and research and provides opportunities for visiting the watershed property.
The Scituate Reservoir Watershed Education Program engages students, residents, businesses, and forest landowners in local communities. This partnership initiative is funded by Providence Water and administered by the Northern Rhode Island Conservation District. Learn more at LandWaterConnection.org
Free public field tours are offered during different seasons of the year. These walking tours visit project sites on different parts of the property and are designed to give interested people a better understanding of forestry and land management issues. Information and registration for these events is available on our Public Field Tours page.
When possible, Providence Water complies with requests to provide special property and water treatment plant tours or participate in events that are consistent with watershed management goals.
The property is available for research related to Providence Water's mission. Research partners have included universities, public agencies, and local high schools.
Why can't I go on the land anytime?
The water supply system provides a vital human need that must be protected from all possible threats. Unmanaged access and recreation is not compatible with drinking water security.
